As an ordinary man living in the digital era, I also use social media to keep in touch with friends and to stay updated over things I care about. Twitter used to be the main social media platform I opened on a regular basis, until I decided to not use it anymore. Since July 2023, I have officially switched to Threads.
I think you already know the reasons.
Twitter is getting worse and worse since it was got acquired by Elon Musk. Too many drastic changes that eliminated the Twitter identity. From the edit button to unlimited character limits. I tried to stay amid the changes as I thought I can keep tweeting without using the features I don’t need — and like. However, after it got renamed to X, I think it’s the time to say goodbye. After all, there is no loyalty in tech. You should use a tech according to needs, not by sentiment.
I will not close my Twitter account. Never. I just don’t want to use it anymore.
I have been on Twitter since 2009 and have witnessed so many things. From that lifted whale, the Twitpic era, to Twitlonger. I also met so many friends on Twitter, which eventually became friends in real life. It’s also impossible to forget the moments I randomly shared on Twitter during my quarter-life crisis.
Nothing lasts forever in this life, though. Everything will come to an end. Maybe it is the best time to say goodbye to Twitter and try new experiences on Threads.
